Milligan Creek in Greenbrier County has been the focus of water quality restoration for several years.  This has been conducted through a watershed based plan and series of clean water act related non-point 319 grants.  With increased interest among landowners in developing fish habitat in the stream, the WVCA and its partners in the Greenbrier Valley Conservation District have begun to revise the Watershed Based Plan to include habitat restoration.  We are scheduling a meeting for Wednesday May 24, 2017 at 6:00 PM at the Lewisburg USDA Service Center to get all interested partners involved with the project.  If there is anyone who you feel may be interested in helping with this project that was not included in this e-mail, please feel free to forward it to them.  Additionally, if you are not able to attend the meeting, feel free to Skype or phone in (information provided below)  ........................................................................................

WV DEP Junior Conservation Camp - 3/3/17
posted by: Diana Hutchison

Junior Conservation Camp, sponsored by the WV Department of Environmental Protection, is held each year at Cedar Lakes in Ripley, WV for five days.   This year’s camp will be held June 19-23, 2017.

The camp is for youth between the ages of 11 and 14 and provides an opportunity for them to become knowledgeable about conservation and the environment.

In an effort to help promote the camp and conservation among our youth, the Greenbrier Valley Conservation District will sponsor two students from each county in the district:  Monroe, Greenbrier, and Pocahontas.  Sponsorship will cover the $175 cost of the camp, which includes food and lodging.  Transportation and any other costs will be the responsibility of the parent or guardian.

If you would like to recommend a student or students to be sponsored, please email gvcd@wvca.us by March 31, 2017.  Once all recommendations are received, they will be reviewed by the GVCD Board and campers will be selected.
