The Southern Conservation District in participation with the WV Department of Agriculture and WV Conservation Agency will be accepting applications for cost share assistance on water hauling tanks and associated fittings. The tanks shall be used to obtain water from various sources and haul to areas to fulfill livestock drinking water needs. The tanks shall not be used to transport water for human consumption.

The application sign-up period for the SCD counties (Raleigh, Fayette, Mercer, McDowell, Summers and Wyoming) will be October 21-25, 2019.  The SCD office hours are Monday - Friday  8:00 a.m.. to 4:00 p.m..   Retroactive payments will be permitted if tank(s) and associated fittings are purchased between September 1, 2019 - November 22, 2019 and the Conservation District has approved the application. Applications may contain other eligibility requirements set by the District and/or WV Conservation Agency.

For program information and how to sign up for possible assistance please contact the SCD office at 253-0261.     The cost share rate for this practice shall be 50% up to a maximum reimbursement of $400.00 per cooperator for hauling tanks and associated fittings.  

The Southern Conservation District will be holding a Chainsaw Safety Course on Wednesday, October 2nd at Camp Creek State Park - the event will begin at 9:00 a.m.

The Southern Conservation District August 8th regularly scheduled board meeting HAS BEEN CHANGED to August 15, 2019.  The meeting will begin at 9:45 a.m. in the SCD upstairs conference room.

Due to the passing away of Dvon Duncan, our good friend and colleague the SCD July 11 board meeting has been canceled and rescheduled for July 18, 2019.  The July 18th board meeting will start at 9:45 a.m.

Dvon was a active member of the SCD board and will be missed by all of us! (see attached picture)

Dvon was recognized as the Supervisor of the Year and Carroll Greene Nominee for the SCD in 2016. Dvon began serving on the district in board in 2010. During her years of service she served as the SCD secretary, started the SCD Marketing Committee, served on the SCD education committee and AgEP committee in addition to working on the 319 program for the district and serving as the SCD representative on the Mountain RC&D board.

Dvon was the lead person in developing the 1st SCD Calendar highlighting farms from all around the district.

Please note the Southern Conservation District will be holding a sign up period for fiscal year 20 for the Agricultural Enhancement Program at the SCD office, 463 Ragland Road, Beckley, WV from July 8 -12, 2019.  Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Monday through Friday.

Attention landowners in the SCD counties: Fayette, Raleigh, Summers, Mercer, McDowell and Wyoming

The Southern Conservation District will begin taking applications for the state Emergency Assistance for Revegetation Program beginning at 8:00 a.m. on April 17 at the SCD office, 463 Ragland Road, Beckley,    The district will take applications on April 17th, 18th, 19th, 23rd, 24th. and 25th.    The SCD will be closed on April 22 due to a District event - applications will not be taken on this date.
