Holiday Office Closure Notice - 12/30/25

The TVCD office will be closed for the New Year’s holiday from Wednesday through Friday of this week.
Regular business hours will resume at 8:00 AM on Monday, January 5th.

West Virginia Century Farm Program Accepting Applications for 2026 - 12/29/25

Applications are now open for the 2026 West Virginia Century Farm Program, which recognizes families who have farmed the same land for generations. The program honors West Virginia farms that have remained in the same family for 100 years or more, celebrating the long-standing role of agriculture in communities across the state.
Farms are recognized in four categories based on years of continuous family ownership and operation:
 
* Century Farms (100 years)
* Sesquicentennial Farms (150 years)
* Bicentennial Farms (200 years)
* Sestercentennial Farms (250 years)
 
Applications for the 2026 program are available in PDF format. To access the application, go to https://www.wvca.us/education/pdf/centuryFarmAppl_U1225.pdf
 
Completed applications must be submitted to the applicant’s local conservation district office by February 1, 2026.
All conservation districts must submit their approved Century Farm applications to Ken Brown by April 1, 2026.

Chestnut Tree Interest is Growing!

TVCD's recent article on hybrid chestnut trees has gained a lot of attention across West Virginia, and we’re thrilled to see so much public interest in restoration efforts.

To help manage the many questions coming in, we’re directing all inquiries to Donnie Tenney, Board Chair of the Tygarts Valley Conservation District. Donnie has been directly involved with the Dunstan Hybrid American Chestnut Project and welcomes email requests for more information.

FY26 Drought Exigency Program Application Instructions - 9/23/25

The Tygarts Valley Conservation District (TVCD) is now accepting applications for its Drought Exigency Program, which provides a 50% cost share up to $500 to support landowners in implementing drought-related conservation practices.

Available options include livestock water supply, irrigation, revegetation of feeding areas, cover crop establishment, and temporary fencing.

To apply by mail:

1. Download and complete the appropriate Drought Exigency Program application (each practice requires its own application)

2. Complete and include the following required documents:

4. Cooperator Agreement

5. Mail all completed forms to:

Receipts dated as far back as 9/2/25 are eligible, but no applications or receipts dated after 10/27/25 will be accepted.

WVDA Drought Recovery Program Checks - 3/10/25

!! Attention Farmers in the Tygarts Valley Conservation District! !!

If you applied for drought recovery assistance prior to the 1/30/25 deadline, you can pick up your West Virginia Department of Agriculture Drought Recovery Program checks at the district office!

Location: 16346 Barbour Co Hwy, Philippi, WV 26416
Pickup Dates: Tuesday, 3/11/25 to Thursday, 3/13/25
Hours: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

IMPORTANT: The person picking up the check must be the one listed on your Drought Recovery Program paperwork and must bring a photo ID.

If you don’t pick up your check by 4:00 PM on Thursday, 3/13/25, it will be mailed to the address on file with your application. This address is the same one on your USDA-Farm Service Agency 2024 Livestock Forage Disaster Program Report.
